Pull Not Push

“Champions are made when no one is looking.” I saw this on a t-shirt today for a sporting brand, but it applies equally true to anything. If you want to be really effective at anything, you have to put in the hours and effort when no one is making you do it. You have to pull the work to you.

This is especially true in the field of self-directed learning. Whatever you want to achieve, create, or accomplish takes time and effort, and you don’t have mandatory schooling to push you along. Ideally you have a guide or coach or mentor to support and encourage you, but the best maxim to follow are these famous words by Michelangelo to his apprentice: “Draw, Antonio; draw, Antonio; draw and don’t waste time.”
